The Competition is already an established tradition, which has the aim to develop and raise the level of knowledge of the law students of the new generation in the sphere of international law, to brief and argue a hypothetical case on timely issues of international as well as customary law, to discuss urgent topics, which is more important in the context of the difference of various legal systems, as well as to promote the development of experts in international law.
The Oral Round of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was held on 11-12 February 2012. Three preliminary rounds were held in the Court of General Jurisdiction of Center-Nork Marsh Communities of Yerevan. The final round was held in the Red Court Room of the Court of Cassation of the Republic of Armenia. Five teams had applied for participation in the 2012 Jessup Competition and received the materials of which three teams introduced their written memorials and participated in the Oral Round. They represented: Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University; Sankt-Petersburg University of External Economic Relations; European Regional Educational Academy.
The Armenian Young Lawyers Association, the Law Foundation of Armenia, and “LEGAL ALLIANCE” Law Firm were co-organizers of the Competition this year. The Judicial Department of the Republic of Armenia assisted to organization of the Competition as well, and provided Court rooms in the Court of Cassation of the RA and in the Court of General Jurisdiction of Center Nork-Marash Communities of Yerevan to organize the Oral Rounds of the competition.
On 12 February 2012, at 13:00 p.m., after accomplishment of the Final Oral Round of the National Competition of the 2012 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, the solemn award ceremony took place.
The Judges of the final Oral Round, Mr. Yeghishe Kirakosyan, Deputy Minister of Justice of the RA, participant of international Rounds of Philp C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Washington, member ant coach of the Jessup team of Yerevan State University; Miss Liza Grigoryan, advocate, alumna of the American University of Armenia; and Ms. Armine Harutyunyan, advocate, greeted the participants.
The team from the law department of Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University was announced the winner of the Armenian National Round of the 2012 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
The team of the law department of European Regional Educational Academy was announced the second.
The memorial of Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University was recognized the Best Memorial of the Competition.
Miss. Syuzanna Shamakhyan from Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University was recognized the best oralist of the first preliminary round.
Miss Ani Baghdasaryan from European Regional Educational Academy was recognized the best oralist of the second preliminary round.
Mr. Jhon Hayrapetyan from Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University was recognized the best oralists of the third preliminary round.
Miss Miss. Syuzanna Shamakhyan from Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University was recognized the best oralist of the Competition.
The winner of the competition, the team of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University, was awarded the Jessup Cup of the Armenian National Round.
