The Armenian law students accomplished the Armenian National Round of the 2009 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. This was the ninth Jessup competition held in the Republic of Armenia since 2000. The Law Foundation of Armenia, the Armenian Young Lawyers Association, and “LEGAL ALLIANCE” Law Firm were co-organizers of the Competition this year. The National Round was organized with the financial support of the US Embassy in Armenia. The Judicial Department of the Republic of Armenia assisted to organization of the Competition as well, and provided Court rooms in the Court of Cassation of the RA and in the Court of General Jurisdiction of Malatia-Sebastia Community of Yerevan to organize the Oral round of the competition.
The theme of the 2009 Jessup competition referred to differences concerning “Operation Provide Shelter.”
The Oral Round of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was held on 7-8 February 2009. Four preliminary rounds and the semi-final rounds were held in Court of General Jurisdiction of Malatia-Sebastia Community of Yerevan. The final round was held in the Red Court Room of the Court of Cassation of the Republic of Armenia.
Seven teams had applied for participation in the 2009 Jessup Competition and received the materials of which five teams introduced their written memorials and participated in the Oral Round. They represented M. Nalbandyan State Pedagogical University of Gyumri from Shirak Province, Tumanyan State Pedagogical University of Vanadzor from Lori Province, Yerevan State University, European Regional Educational Academy Foundation, and National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia International Scientific-Educational Center.
Just after the end of the Final Round judges of the round Ms Nelly Harutyunyan, Ms Nazeli Vardanyan, and Ms Irina Kharatyan, as well as Mr. Karen Zadoyan, President of the Armenian Young Lawyers Association, and Miss Arpine Yeghikyan, Armenian National Administrator congratulated the teams with the accomplishment of the National Round.

The team from the law department of Yerevan State University was announced the winner of the Armenian National Round of the 2009 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. The team of the law department of the European Regional Educational Academy Foundation was announced the second.
Levon Gevorgyan, captain of the team of Yerevan State University was recognized the best oralist of the preliminary rounds and was recognized the best oralist of the Competition as well.
The winner team as well as the second and third place teams, the best oralist of the competition received certificates. All participants of the Armenian National Round of the 2009 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition received certificates of participation as well. The Competition was covered by the mass media.
The current competition once and again met its main objective enhancing the knowledge of the law students in the sphere of international law, introducing the international practice and educating skilled and knowing experts in international law.
The team from the law department of Yerevan State University will take part in the International Round of the 2009 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Washington on 22-28 February 2009.
