The Armenian law students accomplished the Armenian National Round of the 2008 the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. This was the eighth Jessup competition held in the Republic of Armenia since 2000.
The current competition once and again met its main objective enhancing the knowledge of the law students in the sphere of international law, introducing the international practice and educating skilled and knowing experts in international law.
The Final Oral Round of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was held on 9-10 February 2008. Four preliminary rounds and two semi-final rounds were held in the Trial Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork Marash Community of Yerevan. The final round was held in the court room of the Court of Criminal Appeal of the Republic of Armenian.
Nine teams had applied for participation in the 2008 Jessup Competition and received the materials. Seven teams introduced their written memorials and participated in the Oral Round. They represented Eurasia International University, European Regional Educational Academy Foundation, Foundation University Francies in Armenia (French University of Armenia), Armenian Open University, “MYUD” Institute of Law, Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University and Yerevan State University. Gavar State University from Gegharkunik Province and H. Tumanyan State Pedagogical University of Vanadzor from Lori Province did not submit their papers.
The Armenian Young Lawyers Association, the Law Foundation of Armenia and “LEGAL ALLIANCE” Law Firm were the co-organizers of the Competition this year. The National Round was organized with the financial support of the US Embassy in Armenia.
A solemn award ceremony of the winners and participants of the Armenian Round of the 2008 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was held in Yerevan Golden Tulip Hotel at 17:30 on 10 February 2008. Guests, judges and students took attended the award ceremony.
Miss Arpine Yeghikyan, the National Administrator of the Competition, Mr. Karen Zadoyan, Managing Partner of the “LEGAL ALLIANCE” Law Firm, the co-organized of the Competition, and Mr. Thomas D.Mittnacht, Public Affairs Officer of the US Embassy in Armenia, who attended the final round, congratulated the teams and wished successful participation of the winner team in the International Round in Washington and show better results.

The team from the law department of Yerevan State University was announced the winner of the Armenian National Round of the 2008 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. The team’s memorial was announced the best as well.
The team of the law department of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University was announced the second.
Levon Gevorgyan, captain of the team of Yerevan State University was recognized the best oralist of the first and fourth preliminary rounds.
Aram Vardevanyan from Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University was the best oralist of the third preliminary round.
