The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition was held in Armenia for the 5th time. The competition was organized by The Law Foundation of Armenia and “Armenian Young Lawyers Association” NGO with the support of the U.S. Embassy in Armenia, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Armenian Representation of American Bar Association Central and East European Law Initiative (ABA/CEELI), Armenian Bar Association of America (ABA) and the International Law Students Association (ILSA).
14 teams from Yerevan and Armenian regions had applied for participation in the National Round of the 2005 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
8 teams participated in the Armenian National Round of the 2005 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, which was held on February 5 – 6, 2005 in Armenia Marriott Hotel in Yerevan. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd preliminary rounds were held on February 5 in accordance with the schedule. The 4th preliminary round, as well as the semifinal and final rounds were held on February 6.
The teams of the law department of the Yerevan State University and the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University met in the final round.
The team from the law department of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University was announced the winner of the National Round of The 2005 Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. The team’s memorial was announced the best as well. Sarah Shiarazyan and Anna Hakobyan from the Yerevan State University team, as well as Ara Khzmalyan from the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University team were announced the best oralists of the preliminary rounds. Ara Khzmalyan from the law department of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University was announced the Best Oralist of the National Round.
The guests, judges and students took part at the award ceremony at the end of the competition. The winner and the second place team, as well as the best oralist of the competition and the best oralists of the preliminary rounds received certificates.
Mr. Karen Zadoyan, advocate, President of Armenian Young Lawyers Association and Chair of Board of Trustees of the Law Foundation of Armenia, Ms. Naira Gyulnazaryan representative of the U.S. Embassy in Armenia, Mr. Vigen Sargsyan, Assistant to the President of RA, Master of International Law and Diplomacy and Jessup Moot Court Competition judge, and Miss Lusineh Abgaryan, National Administrator of the Armenian round handed the certificates.
The results of the National Round were sent to ILSA Executive office in Washington in compliance with the Official Rules of the Competition.
The team from the law department of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University will take part in the International Round of the Jessup Moot Court Competition in Washington on March 27 – April 2, 2005.
